Who I am.
Hi! I am Marylia. The writer and editor behind Hostess Meets World. I was born in the beautiful island of Puerto Rico and currently live in sunny Florida, USA with my husband and my energetic Jack Russell Terrier.
What I do.
I host travelers from around the world at my place and stay as a guest at different hosts places when I travel.
Hostess Meets World is a Shared Economy Hosting + Travel blog. I started blogging about Shared Economy hosting and traveling because I am very passionate about hosting people from around the world! I have been an Airbnb hostess for two and a half years and have met wonderful people from around the globe. Also, I love traveling and using Shared Economy services throughout my travels – what a great way to connect with people from around the world!
Why I do it.
It all started with a trip to Reykjavik, Iceland. I began searching for affordable places to stay and came across an article about traveling on a budget. After a bit of research, I learned all about the concept of Shared Economy. I booked a small detached garage next to a house in Reykjavik. Not only was I able to save money, but also meet the host and his family and learn about the real land of fire and ice through the eyes of a local. I never learned how to pronounce the name of one of their volcanoes though… Eyjafjallajökull…sigh.
After returning home I got inspired to become a hostess. I furnished the empty space in my house and within two weeks I received my first booking from a Korean Family! Two and a half years of hosting and over 80 different bookings later I can say that I have found my passion…Traveling, hosting guests and getting to know their story. Everyone has a story to tell.
